Monte Moser
Varsity Coach
This will be the third season
at the helm for Coach
Moser. The Elks have reached the state semi-finals each of
his
two prior seasons. While the Elks graduated 5 starters and 8 seniors
overall from the 2007 squad, expectations
remain high this year. A talented class of juniors join the
squad
coming off their own 21-3 JV record. The 2008 team will bring
a
new blend of improved defense and tenacity to the ever-present power
offense.
From 2002 to 2005,
Monte served as the boys' freshmen and junior
varsity coach. Following the 2005 season, Monte
was selected to succeed long
time coach Pat Reynolds. He
also served as the girls' varsity assistant coach from 2003 to 2006,
becoming the girls' varsity coach in the 2007 season.
During the years 1996
to 1999, Monte was the head coach
of the Northmont High School boys' volleyball team. The
Thunderbolt teams combined for a 67-32 record, including a regional
championship and state final four appearance in 1998, during his four
seasons. He was named regional coach of the year for both the
1997 and 1998 seasons, received an All-Ohio coaches' achievement award
in 1998, and selected to coach the Ohio-Indiana All Star match
following the '97 and '98 seasons.
Outside of the high
school volleyball realm, Monte has
been very active in the USA junior volleyball community. He
coached from 1994 to 1997 for several Miami Valley Juniors teams.
Beginning in 1999, Monte helped found the first boys' juniors
program for the Dayton area. Since that time, he and several
other area coaches have maintained a boys' juniors program under
several names and associations. Currently, Monte is the
director and coach for
the Air City Volleyball Club, providing off season training and playing
opportunities for boys in the Dayton area.
Coach Moser remains an
active player and official, as he
has been since starting in volleyball in the early 1980's. He
is
a member of the Dayton Volleyball Club teams during the USA Volleyball
adult season as well as participating in local men's YMCA leagues and
events. He is also a USAV and high school volleyball official
of
over 20 years and has been selected to work the OHSAA girls' playoffs
many
times. Monte is a graduate of Grove City College
(Pennsylvania)
where he earned a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and History in
1989.
